The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace such as registered managers of a service or unit, or deputy or assistant managers. The qualification forms the competence requirements for those learners working in adult care settings at level 5. The content is appropriate for learners who work in adult social care and have responsibility for leading and managing a service. This will include managing and improving care and support for those accessing the service, supporting and developing the workforce and driving the vision for their service or organisation. Primarily, the qualification aims to support the development of registered managers of adult social care services, specifically those new to the role. The qualification aims to develop learners’ knowledge and skills in leading and managing adult social care provision and teams, responsibilities of leaders and managers, improvement and innovation, communication, values and behaviours, health and safety and professional behaviours of leaders and managers.

Course Uses

Successful completion of this qualification, learners may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:

• Level 5 Certificate in Principles of Commissioning for Wellbeing (RQF)

•Learners can progress to a specialism Degree in their chosen field.

Entry Requirements

It is a requirement that learners have access to the appropriate workplace and role to be able to successfully meet the knowledge and skills requirements of this qualification.

To register on to this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirement: 

• Be working as a manager(paid/voluntary) in a suitable role (as outlined above) within the residential childcare sector.

• Be 19+ years of age

It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Additionally, it is recommended that learners are able to demonstrate prior achievement of qualifications at a minimum of Level 3 in a related area. It is recommended that learners will have completed a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Assessment Method

This qualification is assessed through completion of a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed and internally quality assured by the centre.

To complete the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF) (England), learners must achieve a minimum of 95 credits.

The following rule of combination must be followed, learners:

• must complete all units contained within the mandatory group totalling 80 credits

• may complete a maximum of 5 credits from optional group A

• must complete a minimum of 10 credits from optional group B
